A Western New York musician is going to extremes for his art.
WIVB reports Damon Gross, a Buffalo musician who performs as Chosen 1, intentionally set his hands on fire Saturday for a photo that will appear on the cover of his new album. The photo shoot took place outside of the Creekside Assembly of God church in Amherst under the supervision of Robbins Stunt Team owner Greg Robbins.
Video shows Gross wearing special gloves covered in flammable liquid while posing with his hands in the air.
“It’s very dangerous,” Robbins told the Buffalo TV station. “You cannot control fire. We’ve done everything from a hand to a full body and it’s all the same. It’s not predictable at all. So you’ve got to have everything in place, you’ve got to know what you’re doing, and pray.”
Robbins, a stunt coordinator with four decades of experience with movies like 1984′s “The Terminator” and 1985′s “Re-Animator,” discouraged people from trying to do the same at home. However, if they’re interested in learning how to perform dangerous stunts safely, his team is conducting stuntman boot camps for film productions in Western New York.
Gross is described as a Christian rapper who released his debut EP, “Just the Beginning,” earlier this year. His music as Chosen 1 is available on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
A release date for his new album, featuring the image of his hands on fire, has not been announced.
Gross also co-owns the God is Love The Movement fashion brand and co-hosts the podcast “For Destiny Purposes Only,” according to his Instagram pages @chosen_one2214 and @chosen1.glory.
